Saint Ruth

  

I recently completed this icon of Saint Ruth. She was an Old Testament saint, who lived during the time of the Judges, and has a book in the Bible with her name. She was a Moabite widow, who adopted the faith of One True God of Israel, and considered Israel her own people. She was gleaning in the wheat fields when she met Boaz, who married and redeemed her. She became the great-grandmother of David, and ultimately, an ancestor of Christ, named explicitly in Matthew's Gospel.
